Damage symptoms, occurrence regularity and control measures of corn ear borer

02/07/2021
Corn ear borer is a common pest, which seriously affects the quality and yield of corn!
Harmful symptoms:
The larvae spin silk and net in the ear, eat grains in the net, and harm from the milk ripening stage of millet and sorghum to the harvest stage.
     Occurrence regularity:
( 1) Generation. There are two generations a year in North China( 2) Overwintering and insect source. Old mature larvae overwinter in hidden places such as sorghum, millet ears, yards, warehouses, cracks in the dry bark of big trees, cuts in the lower part of cereals and grasses( 3) Occurrence factors. ① Climatic factors: high temperature in winter, high rainfall in early summer, moderate rainfall in late August and less rainstorm may occur. ② cultivation factors generally, tight panicle varieties occur the most, medium loose panicle varieties take the second place, loose panicle varieties occur less, large loose sorghum generally does not occur in the same ~ block, and plants with large panicles suffer more than those with small panicles.
  Prevention measures:
( 1) Agricultural control: pay attention to the selection of loose panicle varieties( 2) Physical control: expose the cut ears of grain and sorghum in the field, and put ~ circles of grain and grass around. Cover the ears with grain and grass at night. Due to the sun's exposure and grass covering, the temperature will rise, which will induce the larvae to climb into the grain and grass and hide, and then burn the grain and grass or crush the larvae with stone rollers, or cover the ears with mats at night to make the larvae climb onto the mat, In the morning, the larvae are concentrated from to to to be destroyed( 3) Chemical control: spray 500 times of 25% insecticidal double agent, or 2000 times of 50% fenitracin, or 4000 times of 2.5% deltamethrin emulsion, or 2000 times of 42% terlik emulsion at the peak of egg incubation or before the second instar of larvae. It has obvious control effect on the insect and is safe for sorghum. Sorghum is sensitive to Trichlorfon and dichlorvos. It will cause drug damage immediately after use. Do not use it in production.
